BAFTA 2018: ITS OFFICIAL...BAFTA > Golden Globe Dresses.

SO, tonight, the stars arrived on the red carpet in black dresses (to make their political statement in Britain) at the 2018 British Academy Film and Television Awards (the British Oscar's basically).

BUT, the true royalty, Kate Middleton wore a GORGEOUS dark green dress; kept it classy and politics free- the true definition of a princess!

Putting politics aside, lets just say the stars brought their A-game to Britain and DEFINITELY killed it with their black dresses; the Golden Globe red carpet needs a lesson from the stylist of the BAFTA dresses. Now lets take a look at who SLAY'd...a couple I can go either way on, and a few tragic dresses.

Oh and I'm officially obsessed with Lupita Nyong'o between her BAFTA dress and Versace dress at the Black Panther World Premiere (where I saw it in person) she is at the TOP of her game. Check it.

SLAY'D
From Top: Left to Right-
Lupita Nyong'o, Angelina Jolie (who I'm not usually a fan of), Margot Robbie, Salma Hayek, Saoirse Ronan, Naomie Harris

COUPLES who SLAY'D

From Left to Right: Leslie Bibb and Sam Rockwell, Jamie Bell and Kate Mara, Dutchess of Cambridge and Prince William

50/50
I could go either way on these but...(read the caption and check out if you agree or disagree with me)
From Left to Right
Emma Roberts: The dress needs to be a bit longer, you can't tell in the picture but the shoulders are very high
Jennifer Lawrence: The dress would be MORE gorgeous if it had more of a sweetheart neck or v neck line, I don't like the straight across
Natalie Dormer: There is just to much fabric, and the train looks like a choker
Cressida Bonas: Sequins + Ruffles + random color swirls = a bit exta

TRAGIC
From Top- Left to Right:
Allison Janney: Is she planning on joining the Tesla Roadster in Space after?
Lily James: Gothic prom dress gone wrong
Annette Bening: Are you wearing sandals with your flapper dress? Eye pollution.
Greta Gerwig: This dress is for a 12 year old not a 34 year old
Helena Bonham Carter: Your purse says queen...this outfit makes you Queen of the worst dressed
Anya Taylor Joy: Oh I guessed your tied with Helena for the Queen of worst dressed as you already have the crown!

So do you think the BAFTA black dresses were better than the Golden Globes?

2018 Golden Globes: SLAY, MEH, TRAGIC

The "75th Annual Golden Globes" aka a...

...Celebrity fueled charity event to raise awareness for the current state (sexual assault/harassment, gender inequality etc.) of the entertainment industry.

SO, I'm gonna try and leave my political views out of this post.

With all the recent hoopla going around in Hollywood, celebs (both men and women) took it upon themselves to use the 75th Annual Golden Globes as a global platform for their protests of sexual misconduct and gender inequality. They did this in 3 ways:

1. Wearing black dresses (and tuxes) as a sign of unity.
    • My opinion: a lot of these dresses were very risque and basically asking for it, they should have worn nun outfits and called it a night. Again, it is Hollywood. (see below)
For example: Kate Hudson & Catherine Zeta- Jones
Hudson in Valentino Haute Couture (Hudson would be on my worst dress list),  Zeta-Jones in Zuhair Murad Couture (don't get me wrong I LOVE Zeta-Jones dress. Def in my top 5...

2. The Hollywood elite decided that only females will be presenting the awards.

3. Men (and some women) wearing the political accessory; "times up" pins. It's a similar ideology to "MeTOO" and "AskHerMore"
  • find out more about the pins here
  • read about the "AskHerMore" campaign here - basically, some believe that the red carpet interviews should not just be about what the person is wearing.
*Side note: Everyone's entitled to their own opinion you don't have to agree with me, but I would love to hear your thoughts.

NOW back to fashion- some were able to achieve a stunning black dress/ best dressed look, well others definitely struggled. Check out my TOP 5 in each category!

SLAY
They all KILLED it or rather SLAYED it or rather LOOK STUNNING
MEH
Cameron: The bow just throws the whole dress off - Christmas present packaging?
Moss: This dress is fab (and definitely modest) but it would look better on Amy Poehler
Klum: Needs to learn how to dress her age. She basically has a tail, the dress should have been 1 length
Brosnahan: Great dress but played it to safe
Robbie: It needs a small necklace to tie it all together
TRAGIC
Peet: Looks like she's wearing a satin sheet toga
Berry: To short for her age and the event
Heady: Did she find that at Free People? Y is it ripped up?
Gyllenhaal: Is this a Jumpsuit? or Top? or Jumpsuit with Top?
SJP: Ugly prom dress

This is one of most interesting article I read about this topic, was more from a stylist perspective about how some stylist are having not only finding a black dress, but also a black dress that will their customer happy.
