MET GALA 2018: The VERSACE Way

SO, by now I'm sure you have seen ALL the looks, reviews, & memes of the 2018 Met Gala; thanks to Instagram and every other news sources featuring fashion.

Therefore, I'm going to do things a bit different and focus in on the one and only Donatella Versace!! After all she was the co-chair (alongside Anna Wintour), sponsor, and the perfect designer to represent this years theme: Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination

After this, I'm pretty sure Donatella is the reigning QUEEN of the fashion world.

*cue the song*

Now lets take a look at the Versace...Versace.Versace. looks of the night
including my favorite look...of the night...
Blake Lively's Versace dress needed it's own party bus and was accessorized with 2 MIL of Lorainne Schwartz Jewels...but thats all blah blah blah as SHE KILLED IT! THE QUEEN OF THE BALL! I'm in love
the AMAZE looks from Versace

SZA
Kim Kardashian - looking better than her average
Iryna Shak & Bradley Cooper
BEST DRESSED COUPLE AWARD

Migos
Chadwick Boseman

... and the TRAGIC looks from Versace
Katy Perry
I think she was to busy focused on delivering Kim Kardashian's push on nails, to realize this is NOT the VS Fashion Show
WORST DRESSED
Gigi Hadid
I know everyone is LOVING on this dress and I guess its suppose to be like stain glass, but it just doesn't do anything for her or me. She looks like she is a bird that is chillin out on the sistine chapel.
Tom Brady & Gisele Bundchen
Tom leave the fashion up to your wife! Stay in your lane, as this is a major PENALTY!

Zendaya
I think this is a costume for the next Marvel movie

2018 SAG Awards: SLAY, MEH, TRAGIC

So,  I think the NY post headline said it best, "Color is back at the SAG Awards". HOWEVER, on about 90% of the red carpet, the "colored dresses" were absolutely tragic. Hollywood and their stylists I think forgot how to rock florals, sequins, and well...color.

Sequin details were def a reoccurring trend, it looks like fairy dust was just thrown on all the dresses (guess they were out of flour).

Maybe these celebs were trying to take away from James Franco's attendance, Nicole Kidman's engagement, and John Stamos's wife pregnancy announcement. BUT, a new fangirl friendship happened - Hi Millie Bobbie Brown & Dakota Fanning!!

I love Millie Bobbie Brown, from her style (she's the only one that can pull off converse on the red carpet), her personality, her fangirling with Drake and Dakota Fanning, and her AMAZING talent.

If you follow my insta (sare_uh), you will see a couple of my opinions ... but now, it's time for the full low down.

I'm going to start with the TRAGIC as I just have so much funny commentary (if I may say so myself). I could honestly add 5 more people to the tragic list, but I don't want to give you to much of an eye sore.

TRAGIC
They're are so many tragic dresses I don't even know where to begin. Let's just process this for a moment:
Top Row: Left to Right
Susan Sarondon- I have 3 questions for you: 1. Why are you wearing sunglasses? 2. Did you forget to tailor your dress? 3. Did you roll out of bed hungover?
Kate Nash- Karen Grassle called, she wants her dress from Little House on the Prairie back.
Sally Hawkins- Does anyone have an dvil? I'm getting dizzy just looking at this jumpsuit
Kate Hudson- Valentines Day isn't till Feb 14th, and I highly recommend laying that dress to rest before someone lays you.

Bottom Row: Left to Right
Greta Gerwig- Your dress looks like someone got sick eating candy buttons all over your dress (ps who remembers candy buttons when they were little?)
Laura Linney-  You took hiding behind the curtains a bit to literally
Molly Sims- As my mother would say, you look like a "rag a muffin"- dress your age and stop trying to make polka dots happen
Gina Rodriguez- "Times up" for that dress, sorry not sorry
SLAY

TBH the under 18 actresses KILLED IT on another level. They need to be teaching the older generation how to slay on the red carpet.
From Left to Right: Sadie Sink in Chanel, Mille Bobbie Brown in Calvin Klien, Dakota Fanning in Prada, Marsai Martin in Mimi Couture

From Left to Right: Samara Weaving in Miu Miu, Halle Berry in Pamella Roland, Kristen Bell in J. Mendel. Alison Williams in Ralph and Russo Couture

MEH
From Left to Right
Mandy Moore in Ralph Lauren - Played WAY to safe
Felicity Huffman - stunning dress but you are just a tad to OLD for it, dress your age
Margo Robbie in Miu Miu: I know everyone LOVES this dress, but those feathers under the bust need to be returned to the bird it came from. Please relay that to Mary J Blige as well.

Let me know your thoughts!

2018 Golden Globes: SLAY, MEH, TRAGIC

The "75th Annual Golden Globes" aka a...

...Celebrity fueled charity event to raise awareness for the current state (sexual assault/harassment, gender inequality etc.) of the entertainment industry.

SO, I'm gonna try and leave my political views out of this post.

With all the recent hoopla going around in Hollywood, celebs (both men and women) took it upon themselves to use the 75th Annual Golden Globes as a global platform for their protests of sexual misconduct and gender inequality. They did this in 3 ways:

1. Wearing black dresses (and tuxes) as a sign of unity.
    • My opinion: a lot of these dresses were very risque and basically asking for it, they should have worn nun outfits and called it a night. Again, it is Hollywood. (see below)
For example: Kate Hudson & Catherine Zeta- Jones
Hudson in Valentino Haute Couture (Hudson would be on my worst dress list),  Zeta-Jones in Zuhair Murad Couture (don't get me wrong I LOVE Zeta-Jones dress. Def in my top 5...

2. The Hollywood elite decided that only females will be presenting the awards.

3. Men (and some women) wearing the political accessory; "times up" pins. It's a similar ideology to "MeTOO" and "AskHerMore"
  • find out more about the pins here
  • read about the "AskHerMore" campaign here - basically, some believe that the red carpet interviews should not just be about what the person is wearing.
*Side note: Everyone's entitled to their own opinion you don't have to agree with me, but I would love to hear your thoughts.

---
NOW back to fashion- some were able to achieve a stunning black dress/ best dressed look, well others definitely struggled. Check out my TOP 5 in each category!

SLAY
They all KILLED it or rather SLAYED it or rather LOOK STUNNING
MEH
Cameron: The bow just throws the whole dress off - Christmas present packaging?
Moss: This dress is fab (and definitely modest) but it would look better on Amy Poehler
Klum: Needs to learn how to dress her age. She basically has a tail, the dress should have been 1 length
Brosnahan: Great dress but played it to safe
Robbie: It needs a small necklace to tie it all together
TRAGIC
Peet: Looks like she's wearing a satin sheet toga
Berry: To short for her age and the event
Heady: Did she find that at Free People? Y is it ripped up?
Gyllenhaal: Is this a Jumpsuit? or Top? or Jumpsuit with Top?
SJP: Ugly prom dress
*Pics are from PopSugar

This is one of most interesting article I read about this topic, was more from a stylist perspective about how some stylist are having not only finding a black dress, but also a black dress that will their customer happy.
