Flashback Fashion (Spring 2018 RTW)

So, thru out Spring 2018 RTW fashion month, we have seen many trends come down the runway to name a few: designer denim, mixed prints, sequin embellishments, fanny packs, and bright colors.

However, there is one trend that made me flashback to my childhood, from Disney characters and cartoons to My Little Pony (at Moschino).

Minnie Mouse first ever NYFW!

On the flip side, these childhood characters allow viewers to take the focus off of whats going on in this world right (from politics to natural disasters) now.

High end fashion designers collaborating with classic characters (like the one's listed below) has been going on for a few years now, but for Spring 2018 designers brought those characters to the runway.

Let me jog your memory:
- Christopher Kane x Beauty and the Beast - check it out here
- Kenzo x Disney (the Jungle Book) - check it out here

Now lets take a look!

Gucci please, tell me that you love me...

...Can I be your main squeeze. - "Gucci Mane"

Of course we need to talk about the Gucci Spring 2018 show,
so lets get to it!

A little background, before we get to the goodies:

Alessandro Michele's (GOAT) inspiration came from multiple ancient civilizations, including his home city- Rome, but on the other end there was a 70's and 80's glam vibe, Disney Characters and even an Elton John collaboration! Michele's mantra and ideology for the Gucci show was:

"Resist the mantra of speed that violently leads to loosing [sic] oneself. Resist the illusion of something new at any cost."

Michele wanted the experience to be the main focus of the show, not necessarily the clothes. His goal was to create a "brave new world" where everyone can be free, the new world, per se, was a combination of Rome's history and keeping to the Gucci title as masters of the digital universe.

“To feel the contemporary, I need to know that something was there before. I want to touch it.” - Alessandro Michele

And that is exactly what he did, the set (presented in a hangar) had scale replica of statues and artifacts of the classical civilization of places like Rome and Greece, along with Egyptian gods, and even seating mummy's next to some people. Although the stage was set from ancient civilization the clothes were quite the opposite, he repped 80's glam with embellished work out joggers,  intricate detail and sequins, sequins, and more sequins, embellishments, layered necklaces, and mix matched prints.

If you don't have serious FOMO yet, you are about to ... so lets dive into my favorite looks (it is so hard to pick) from the 110 piece collection and the incredible details and accessories (which I'm obsessed with- shocker.)

From Left to Right: you can see the 80's jogger inspiration
the 2 dresses on the right end I could see being an Golden Globes or Oscar dress. The shape of the 4th dress in is very ancient Rome inspired.

From left to right: I love this blazer, I love everything bows on it, and he did put a lot of bows down the runway.
One thing that was constant thru out were the Fanny Packs - again very 80's work out girl. The suit on the end is Elton John inspired.

Now for the Details...honestly I'm salivating over.

From Left to Right - If anyone knows me I have a serious sunglass obsession, I love the farthest left - its a bit extra but I'm sure every hip hop artist will be flexin with them.
On the far left: heart sunglasses- I mean so nostalgic, I think I even still have a pair from when I was little, but obv may have to cop these to!
The 4th form left - amazing statement necklace that embodies both ancient times (the material) along with new!

OK- I saved the best for last! THE BAGS!!! MAJOR BAG ENVY!!
The brown alligator (bottom left - I literally die), bottom center- same thing as last seasons "real gucci" bag, bottom right: I'm getting this for my puppy!
Top right: This will be in every bloggers closet, Top middle: Gucci went back to their roots with this style, Top right: STUNNING!! There are no more I'm in LOVE.

Just leave me at the Gucci store and I'll be happy. I mean they do even have pillows now to so...
Anyway, Gucci is on another level right now, top of there game, and in every hip/hop song.

I believe Alessandro Michele is one of the only designers, that I could pull off a show like this, with ancient times decor with 80's glam and sequin coming down the runway; some of the dresses was where you can really see the connection of 2 opposite ends of the spectrum. What he has done for the Gucci Brand is next level.

NY Fashion Week: Spring 2018 - Part 1

So it's that time of year again NYFW! It's been interesting the past couple years for a few reasons:

- A lot of designers have been making their collection available straight off the runway

- It seems as if the street style is more prominent and focused on then the show itself (which if you remember Vogue was not happy about - here's a refresher)

- More and More Designers are having presentations instead of actual shows, partly for budget reasons

- The fashion industry has been having major designer shake ups (Balmain, Chloe) and buy outs (Michael Kors and Jimmy Choo, LVMH and Dior)

Although it's only Day 1 - designers seem to making a statement and figuring out a way for there shows to stand out and stay relevant.

Below is a round up of my TOP 5 shows from Day 1 (Sept 7th 2017).

1. Kith: Kith is a very street wear brand, with collaborations with companies like Vogue, to the most recent with Coca Cola. They had GOAT like LeBron James and Scottie Pippen walking in the show, with a very "hype" front row.

2. Calvin Klein: Calvin Klein kicked off fashion week with the idea of taking risks, which he sure did with Andy Warhol and rubber pieces (which to me looked like trash bags)

3. Tom Ford: Apparently the invitations to the show came in his new fragrance called, "Fucking Fabulous" which is the perfect tag line for his Spring 18 show. His collection is very ready to wear filled with pops of color in just the right way!

The color fuchsia, the all denim outfits, bra's as tops, blazers, and embellishments which seem to be a common theme among all the shows.

4. Pamella Roland: This was one of my favorites from the day, the dresses are beyond stunning. According to Vogueruway.com her inspiration came from Monaco,  Grand Prix, and Grace Kelly- all which are absolutely GLAMOROUS just like her Spring 18 show. Although she only had 35 looks - each one that came out was better and better.

5. Rag & Bone: they decided to a presentation, " For some brands, innovation is best incubated off the runway. (vogue runway). Again we see the fuchsia trend, plaid, and denim on denim. They did not just have models but celebrities, dancer, and actors as well. Rag & Bone then agreed to donate to the charity of  each person in the shows choosing.

It is interesting to see how these top designers are addressing the changes going on in fashion and thinking of unique ways to stand out!
