MFW (top 6 shows) is KILLIN IT!: Should we drop NYFW & LFW?

SO, it is currently Milan Fashion Week (home to Gucci, Fendi, Moschino, & more) and they shows are on another level amazing! Read on to see my faves, but first...

Let me ask the big question....SHOULD THE FASHION INDUSTRY DROP NYFW & LFW, and just stick to Milan and Paris?

Hear me out...
  • NYFW is all about the setting of the show, not necessarily the clothes (tragic this season) going down the runway.
  • LFW does have some high fashion, but for the most part, this years London fashion week was very blah - minus Burberry and Christopher Kane.
    • Christopher Bailey is now gone which leaves room for them to transition to London Fashion - yes they are signature in the London fashion scene but.
  • MFW has been the first fashion week of fashion month where I haven't been saying ew to 90% of the Fall 2018 RTW the designers are sending down the runway. Instead I'm drooling over everything, even down to the details!
  • MFW shows major power houses of fashion that I've been more eager to see the runway show then then the street style TBH

My favorite & slightly obsessed (OK completely obsessed) with these looks from MFW:

1. GUCCI
I think Gucci deserves it's own post...but here is a consolidated view:
Yes - that is a dragon. Alesandro Michele's..."wanted to represent the lab I have in my head. It’s physical work, like a surgeon’s.”
Details

Culture was a big reference in Gucci's vision with the LA & NY logos, asian inspired hats, and day of the dead looking masks. Of course, my favorite, the ugly shoe trend was on display (ugh)
Bags
I'll take all of em, thanks! AND watch for that backpack on every blogger & celeb! I'm drooling over all of em.

2. FENDI
The fur though...STUNNING...sorry PETA not sorry
One of the BEST shows - from MFW- so here's an extra few looks.
Logo galore...logo's are definitely making a comeback.

Details
Influencer heaven!

3. VERSACE

Details

4. MOSCHINO
Very Jackie O, intergalactic, flight attendant chic! Leave it to Jeremy Scott to make Jackie O a bit edgy.

5. ROBERTO CAVALLI
Loving all the leather.
Review: Paul Surridge, who has been at Cavalli a year now as creative director, wanted to revamp the signature GLAMOUR of Cavalli - animal print, fur, exotic leathers, embellished jeans and basically everything on another level EXTRA! Surridge toned down the brands glam image, as he says, "“Glamour for me is attraction, attraction is confidence, and confidence is comfort. If you’re not comfortable, you’re not confident.”

6. BLUMARINE
So feminine and always gorgeous! Legit there is not one look I don't like- so hard to choose the top ones...so I didn't...check out the runway show below:

AND finally...can we talk about the puppies Tod's sent down the runway, I die.

One trend throughout Milan Fashion Week was the leather and animal skin boots; expect to see that EVERYWHERE come fall!

Can't wait to hear your thoughts!

NYFW Fall '18: Where's the real focus?

SO, as NYFW comes to a close, it's time to round up some of my fave shows/presentations AND some of the "WTF were they thinking" moments...

...Which brings me to the real question...Where is the real focus on the venue or on the clothes?

The fashion world, as I've mentioned previously, is in major transformation mode (especially the amount of designers/creative directors jumping around) and has become more of a hot mess, over the top statement making, trying to hard sh*tshow - to be blunt.

  • Calvin Klein - Raf Simons def put his flair from past fashion houses by filling the runway (set at the American Stock Exchange) ankle deep in popcorn to represent burned down cornfields to match the burn down barns covered in paintings of Andy Warhol- he is making a political statement ... of course...yet the clothing failed to impress.
Even "it" model Kaia Gerber (bottom left) doesn't make me woo over this collection
  • Philipp Plein having spent 10 MILLION dollars on the show by bringing in a UFO, with robots, fake PLASTIC snow, and rappers on the runway lets just say I could think of a way to spend it. He is conquering the world between, Philipp Plein, Philipp Plein Sport, Billionaires Club but he fails to realize that no matter the money it's still TACKY! It honestly, looked like the Olympics mixed with a rap concert. He always is over the top with his shows...but I can't with this one...(Hollywood Reporter covered it best - read all about it here)

  • Caroline Herrera's last show (with 20 of the same outfits - just different color skirts and belts) where it looks like she basically just gave up

  • Michael Kors drawing major inspiration from street brands like Vehements, Fear of God, and Balenciaga (check out the most accurate review on fashionista - click here). He should have played it safe TBH and stuck to his brand image, as Michael by Michael Kors is already tragic enough.

  • Cynthia Rowley having dogs with the models in her presentations (definitely inspired by me & champ)

  • Marc Jacobs- his collections have really gone down hill - I miss his circa 2010 design days, now this a brand that needs an overhaul and new creative director stat! His whole collection was just very dark and blah, and similar to what Caroline Herrera did with same outfit 20 times.

  • Opening Ceremony hosting their show at Disneyland - stay tuned!

On the brighter side, a few shows were fabulous as they stay trued to the brand and the focus was more on the fashion then the setting.

  • Badgley Mischka who usually kills it, had one dress I love - definitely a contender for an Oscar dress - but otherwise played it safe

      • Prabul Gurung

      • Naeem Kahn - she never fails to wow, and always brings out dresses that SPARKLE on the runway and the detail work is i mean...see for yourself...

      • Oscar De la Renta - this is the new designers (Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia) 3rd show - while trying to stay true to the old Oscar de la Renta's but also focusing on millennial's led to a fairy inspired show with  floral for fall designs (now thats groundbreaking)

      SAVED THE BEST FOR LAST!

      • Alice + Olivia- 2 words: KILLED IT!

Lets see what London, Paris & Milan has to bring; as the designers that show in Europe tend to be a bit more clothing focused.

NYFW: Streetstyle (Fall 18 RTW) - UPDATE

SO, as NYFW begins; the changes - Bottega moving it's show to NY, collections being available right away- of the once glamorized week shifts focus on to the style outside the shows.

As what the "influencers", editors, and bloggers are wearing to the shows are becoming more of the focus of fashion week rather than the actual shows; unless its something out of this world, literally, like Phillipp Plein's runway show.

Honestly, I'm not that impressed with the outfits on the streets from Day 1- 3. However, Day 4 has brought rain and in turn some of the best outfits. Half the time these influencers are throwing on ugly items and putting it together and calling it "fashion". As Caroline Herrara says, right as she announces she is stepping down from the brand...

Some of the major trends OUTSIDE the show is:

      • Plaid, Plaid and more Plaid
      • Trench Coats
      • Colors: Yellow, Red, Pale Pink
      • Metallic booties

Checkout the GIF's of ones I'm loving below:
      DAY 1 - 3

      DAY 4

Stay tuned for more! Let's see if London, Paris, or Milan will bring out some better looks!

      DAY 5

      DAY 6

Goal: Next year be in attendance!
