NYFW Fall '18: Where's the real focus?

SO, as NYFW comes to a close, it's time to round up some of my fave shows/presentations AND some of the "WTF were they thinking" moments...

...Which brings me to the real question...Where is the real focus on the venue or on the clothes?

The fashion world, as I've mentioned previously, is in major transformation mode (especially the amount of designers/creative directors jumping around) and has become more of a hot mess, over the top statement making, trying to hard sh*tshow - to be blunt.

  • Calvin Klein - Raf Simons def put his flair from past fashion houses by filling the runway (set at the American Stock Exchange) ankle deep in popcorn to represent burned down cornfields to match the burn down barns covered in paintings of Andy Warhol- he is making a political statement ... of course...yet the clothing failed to impress.
Even "it" model Kaia Gerber (bottom left) doesn't make me woo over this collection
  • Philipp Plein having spent 10 MILLION dollars on the show by bringing in a UFO, with robots, fake PLASTIC snow, and rappers on the runway lets just say I could think of a way to spend it. He is conquering the world between, Philipp Plein, Philipp Plein Sport, Billionaires Club but he fails to realize that no matter the money it's still TACKY! It honestly, looked like the Olympics mixed with a rap concert. He always is over the top with his shows...but I can't with this one...(Hollywood Reporter covered it best - read all about it here)

  • Caroline Herrera's last show (with 20 of the same outfits - just different color skirts and belts) where it looks like she basically just gave up

  • Michael Kors drawing major inspiration from street brands like Vehements, Fear of God, and Balenciaga (check out the most accurate review on fashionista - click here). He should have played it safe TBH and stuck to his brand image, as Michael by Michael Kors is already tragic enough.

  • Cynthia Rowley having dogs with the models in her presentations (definitely inspired by me & champ)

  • Marc Jacobs- his collections have really gone down hill - I miss his circa 2010 design days, now this a brand that needs an overhaul and new creative director stat! His whole collection was just very dark and blah, and similar to what Caroline Herrera did with same outfit 20 times.

  • Opening Ceremony hosting their show at Disneyland - stay tuned!

On the brighter side, a few shows were fabulous as they stay trued to the brand and the focus was more on the fashion then the setting.

  • Badgley Mischka who usually kills it, had one dress I love - definitely a contender for an Oscar dress - but otherwise played it safe

      • Prabul Gurung

      • Naeem Kahn - she never fails to wow, and always brings out dresses that SPARKLE on the runway and the detail work is i mean...see for yourself...

      • Oscar De la Renta - this is the new designers (Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia) 3rd show - while trying to stay true to the old Oscar de la Renta's but also focusing on millennial's led to a fairy inspired show with  floral for fall designs (now thats groundbreaking)

      SAVED THE BEST FOR LAST!

      • Alice + Olivia- 2 words: KILLED IT!

Lets see what London, Paris & Milan has to bring; as the designers that show in Europe tend to be a bit more clothing focused.

      VMA's Red Carpet 2017: Slay x Meh x Tragic

VMA's red carpet was filled with shimmering looks, corset pieces, and women's suits. However, not everyone killed it. TBH, I'm not sure who a lot of these attendants are, but that doesn't stop me from judging on who SLAY'D, who were MEH, and whose outfits were TRAGIC.

Check it out and let me know if you agree or disagree!
      SLAY
      Comments Starting From Top Left:
Katy Perry: Perfect dress for the host of the night!
Hailey Baldwin: Killed it in the jumpsuit that combine the trends of the night (jumpsuit and bedazzled)
      Lorde: This color is amazing
      Olivia Munn
Christina Millian: She just killed it!
Paris Jackson: Proving she can be classy when she wants to
Bebe Rexha: One of top 3 FAVE looks from the night
Yara Shahidi: Not many people can pull of this color or look, but she rocked it
Erin Lim: Love the 80's shoulder look
Amber Rose: She has definitely classed things up recently, maybe thanks to 21 Savage or her new hair/wig
Chantel Jeffries: Low Key but stunning
Alessandra Ambrosia: Another one of my FAVE- the definition of SLAY!

      MEH

      Comments Starting From Top Left:
Vanessa Hudgens: she would have killed it if the dress was either a bit longer
Millie Bobby Brown: the dress wore her, she didn't wear the dress, it's also to young for her and should be styled with diff shoes
Mel B: she gets points for being petty but ...there's def no gold at the pot of that rainbow
Cardi B: I know you can do better, this is not her style, stay true to your style
Sophia Beem: looks like she just rolled out of bed, but she makes it work a little, since that whole silk PJ thing is in
Julia Michaels: this is not a VMA dress this is a Emmy type dress, and again the dress wore her
Heidi Klum: The dress itself is stunning, but its to much cleavage for her age
Hailee Steinfeld: Im bored staring at it

      TRAGIC

      Comments Starting From Top Left:
Demi Lovato: I'm not sure why everyone is loving this, the MC Hammer pant is so out.
Pink: The only comeback she's making is on the "worst dress list"
Mona Scott Young: I think she forgot to look in the mirror before she stepped out
Lizzo: I don't know who Lizzo is, but this has got to me in the Top 3 WORST of the night, it's like madonna meets bride
Lil Mama: Why is she carrying her bird as an accessory?
Laura Ramano: That is one of the most ill fitting suits I've seen in awhile
Sammy Sanchez: She has a camel toe and is trying to put every trend in one outfit - please stop.
Kesha: She always dresses like trash (literally - member when she wore a trash bag) but this looks like she's popping out of a cake as a surprise for someone's birthday
Farrah Abraham: this outfit confirms how trashy she is,  no wonder she hasn't been knocked up again yet, this outfit is birth control
Jenelle Evans: The top is cute, but does not go with that skirt, it looks as if the bottom part that matched the top fell apart and had to do damage control and figured this black skirt worked
Arielle Vanderberg: brings Cat Caller to a whole nother level, feel free to visit her at the zoo this weekend
Andrea Russet: This looks like a wedding dress
